Feeling it is the ‘right time’ for both to part ways, Pulis’ future as the clubs manager has been in doubt for some time and appears to come as no surprise to the fans since flirting with relegation towards the end of the season. Finally finishing 13th in the 2012-13 Premier League it marked Stoke’s sixth Premier League Campaign after Tony Pulis lead the team to promotion back in 2008 after a long 23-year absence.

Despite a poor run of results in the second half of the season, fans are most likely to remember Pulis as the manager who took to club to their first ever FA Cup final at Wembley back in May 2011.

Support and thankyou messages for the 55-year-old have already been shared across the social media platforms. After announcing his retirement from professional football, former Stoke City and England striker Michael Owen tweeted:

“@themichaelowen : Just heard that Tony Pulis has left Stoke. No denying he did a great job getting them to The Premier League and keeping them there.”

Stoke City FC are yet to release who will be taking over as manager for the club, however with the opening of the transfer window looming we are certain an announcement will be made in the next 24 hours.

Today marks the beginning of Churchill’s 48 hour Charity Challenge.

The Potteries based company is embarking on a charity challenge that will see a specially designed and decorated mug be produced from raw materials and travel, through a relay of runners, to the company’s London based Showroom before a 48 hour deadline.

The challenge is one of the main initiatives that are part of Churchill’s wider charity plans for the next 12 months all in aid of the Douglas Macmillan Hospice. It is hoped that the plans, which began in March 2013 will raise £40,000 in celebration of the charity’s 40th Anniversary by February 2014.

Already, the initiative has raised £13,000 with over 100 companies in the Stoke-on-Trent area becoming involved.

Paul Smith, Production Director at Churchill’s said “Fundraising for the Douglas Macmillan has become an important part of life at Churchill and this year I thought it would be great to try something more challenging that would involve a greater number of the team here. The idea came from the technology we have on the factory floor and how quickly we can turn around production and from that it just escalated into testing our service promise”.

Production of the mug from raw materials begins tonight at 8pm. At 6am tomorrow morning, the first runner will depart from Churchill with the finished product. The relay will then call in at the Douglas Macmillan Hospice before making its way via Swadlincote (50 mile mark) and Woburn (100 mile mark), to the Churchill Showroom in Islington, London where it should arrive by 5pm on Thursday the 23rd May.

Paul Smith concluded “Everyone in the company is really getting behind it and some of the team also started a running club to train. It is an exciting project and the enthusiasm for it is just amazing.”

Limited edition copies of the mug, which run with the slogan ‘Life sets no paths…follow your heart’, will also be going on sale at various locations across Staffordshire and can be purchased for £5.

Liz Clarke, Head of Fundraising at the Douglas Macmillan said “Churchill China always show such a commitment and enthusiasm to fundraising and have raised a significant amount of money for the hospice over the years”.

Liz continued, “This year they really are going that extra mile to support our 40th anniversary year and I would like to thank everyone involved with the challenge. We are sure the team are going to smash their fundraising target with having such a fantastic team of employees and supporters ‘Doing it for Dougie’”.

The Birmingham Selfridges store is pleased to confirm the eagerly-awaited launch of Dior’s luxurious new collection ‘Birds of Paradise’. Drawing inspiration from their striking plumage, Dior has conceptualised this lavish make-up collection available in stores this summer.

The collection is a sensual range of cosmetics designed to mimic the naturally beautiful hues of nature. From bold pigments of azure blue and iridescent peacock greens, to luscious gold shimmers and warmer tones of coral and pink, skin and nails are turned into a canvas for displaying a spectrum of exotic shades.

The Birds of Paradise collection has been expertly crafted to let wearers transition seamlessly from day to night. Using naturally derived ingredients that soothe and enrich the skin, Dior has also for the first time, incorporated a tan beautifier molecule in their Dior skin Nude Tan BB Cream, which prolongs and enhances sun-kissed skin, whilst giving it a perfect healthy glow.

To exude a chic summertime look, dramatise eyes with shimmering turquoises and tropical greens while keeping cheeks simple and light. Create plump kissable lips with the return of one of Dior’s cult-classics, the Dior Addict Lip Maximiser, this time in a sumptuous apricot gloss.

The collection is now available in-store at Selfridges Birmingham as of the launch last Friday, May 17th 2013.

Newcastle-under-Lyme College (NULC) has reached the midpoint of its campaign to generate 100 Apprenticeship opportunities in 100 days. Now at day 50, a total of 64 employers have pledged their support to college’s aim.

There has been a lot of interest and the College has further employer appointments pending.

The College launched the campaign on the 15th March 2013. Spearheaded by Newcastle Borough Council MP Paul Farrelly, supported by local training provider Martec, the National Apprenticeship Scheme, the Borough Council and Stoke and Staffordshire Local Enterprise Partnership, it will attempt to address youth unemployment.

Councillor Gareth Snell from Newcastle Borough Council said: “One of the main areas that we seek to address in our Economic Development Strategy is around worklessness and encouraging Apprenticeship. This campaign goes someway to address those issues which really is fantastic news for the local area.”

Local companies that have taken on an apprentice so far include Ceram, Gorgeous Gowns, Moorcroft Medical Centre and Hanley Economic Building Society.

NULC provides apprenticeships in more than a dozen areas including Accounting, Business and Administration, Construction, Childcare, Electrical Installation, Engineering, Hairdressing, Health and Social Care, Retail and IT.

Head of Employer Engagement and Work Based Learning at Newcastle-under-Lyme College, Vicky Boulton-Clarke said, “we’ve reached the halfway point of the campaign and we’ve had a really positive response from the local employers that we’ve engaged with.”

The site has an indoor market and hard standing area, so it’s a great day out, whatever the weather! The event will run from 9am to 3pm, and with free admission and free parking, it’s a fantastic free day out for all the family!

Approximately 100 market stall holders will be selling everything from books to cakes, carpets and clothes! There will be lots of fabulous food, as well as plants, tools, gifts, toys and soft furnishings.

As well as this, if you fancy a bargain then don’t miss the Car Boot Sale, an expected 50 ‘car booters’ will be in attendance. It’s amazing what you can find – everything from tools and furniture, to cheap books, toys, CD’s, DVD’s and even the odd antique.

If you want to take part in the car boot yourself, simply turn up on the day from 7am. The site is all hard standing (so no muddy fields) and holds a fee of just £8 per car.

Matt Williams, Manager of Penkridge Market said, “We always have a great turn out at our Bank Holiday Markets as even if it’s raining, people still really enjoy it. That’s the fantastic thing about this site – there is an indoor market as well as hard standing area, so it’s a brilliant day out whatever the weather.”

Plenty of refreshments will be available at The Old Deanery Farm Cafe, which serves a wide range of hot and cold food from a bacon sandwich to delicious fish and chips.

Penkridge Market is situated in the centre of Penkridge, and is signposted off the A449. It is easily accessible from Junction 12 of the M6.

Yesterday Stoke-on-Trent welcomed the visit of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales.

As a part of his tour, which included a stop at The Wedgewood Insititue, The Prince visited The Co-operative Academy (formerly Brownhills High School) based in Tunstall.

The Co-operative Academy works as a partner of the Teach First Scheme, of which Prince Charles is the Patron. The scheme offers graduates the experience of working in one of their partner schools on a 2 year course. Upon completion, the candidates are then awarded a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) teaching qualification.

Two of the scheme’s participants at the Academy were lucky enough to meet the Prince during his visit. Samantha Harrison (pictured), Teach First Participant and RE Teacher said “The Prince was very friendly and put everyone at ease the moment we met him.”

Samantha continued “I told Prince Charles about how I am really enjoying the challenge of teaching, despite the hectic nature of my first year. He was also interested to hear about a group of gifted and talented year 11 students that I recently took to Cambridge, which was his former university, as part of a visit to raise their aspirations and give them an insight into university life”.

His Royal Highness spent time talking to Year 5 and 6 children from local primary schools taking part in a ‘Maths Master Class’ which was led by Samantha’s fellow Teach First participant, Patrick O’Sullivan.

The Prince spent time watching the Cooperative Young Leaders in action and talking to students involved in the Industrial Cadets, an initiative inspired by the Prince. The Prince also had a cup of tea with students from the Academy’s ‘Student Voice’ before departing.

Samantha concluded “It was an unforgettable experience and a great honour to have Prince Charles visit the Academy”.
