Sharing her personal experiences of depression, lost identity and determination to overcome this and revealing how she’s created business success from nothing
This summer will be one to remember for 51 year old, Susan Hughes, mum of four boys originally from Nottingham, now living in Stone, Staffordshire for the past 20 years, has discovered she’d penned a best-seller, as a book she co-authored went straight in at number 1 on the Amazon best seller charts in 4 separate book categories.
Only 3 years ago Susan was a stay at home Mum suffering from lack of self-belief, depression and had lost her identity and ‘She Who Dares’, tells of how she tackled this head on, started two home-based businesses and has now just launched her third.
Taking a very open approach to sharing highs and lows, Susan charts the struggles she experienced, alongside revealing her insights on how she overcame such challenges, in a bid to inspire others looking to make a change in 2018.
Starting with sharing how she comes from a very ordinary upbringing, youngest of 6 children from a working class background, we learn how she has used her life experiences, the knowledge she has gained along the way and the relationships she has formed to give her the courage and belief to launch her own businesses.
She said: “Hitting rock bottom to me has been quite liberating, you might think this is a strange reaction to the ‘bad stuff’ but as I look back on those times I now see how hitting rock bottom only made me stronger and more determined in life”
“I live my life by this one saying “Never have regrets”, Why? Because regrets are in the past, they are gone, you made those decisions for whatever reason at the time, whether right or wrong you can’t change them now, you can only take away the experience, the lessons learned and use that to make you a stronger, better person, to know yourself better, to deal with whatever life throws at you better.”
Already reviewed as ‘Absolutely amazing – I have bought it this morning and have just finished reading it – I could not put it down. A collaboration of such inspiring women. I am in awe, feel motivated and I am ready to take on the world! Anything is possible ladies – thank you for getting me through hump day and giving me a kick up the backside!! Highly recommend!”
‘She Who Dares’ charts the journeys of 24 women in business, all at varying stages, but who as a collective have come together to support each other in their growth as they strive for their version of success.
Available now via Amazon https://amzn.to/2OeqUl6 the book is also soon to be made into a paperback.
Susan set up her business, The Wool Boutique in 2017 and The Artisan Boutique in 2018 and her mission is to empower people, especially women and those who have lost their identities through motherhood to believe in themselves and to know that they can achieve anything they set their minds to. She said: “I created my business almost by accident, out of a desire to change my current circumstances. I never dreamt of owning my own business – although my family and friends all had faith in me, it’s amazed me how many have said they always knew I would do something like this.…Looking at what I achieved over the last 12 months blows me away and looking at what new skills I have learnt inspires me to learn more!”.
Brought to life by Authors & Co, whose focus is on telling stories of those who are keen to inspire and leave a legacy, the creation of the book has been gifted to the contributors from their business mentors, the founders of Female Success Network, to celebrate the last 12 months of working together and the milestones that everyone has achieved.
“Being included in this book is a celebration for me of how far I have come, and a recognition of what can be achieved when women in business come together. I am so excited to share my story alongside these other amazing women from Female Success Network who have had my back over the last 12 months. I could not have achieved what I have this year without them. I hope we can inspire other women, who dream of running their own business, but who perhaps haven’t taken that step yet, or those who are in the early stages and are feeling a little lost. I also hope it will show people that female solidarity does exist – this is a real example of women coming together to be stronger, not stabbing each other in the back, and it’s something I’m really proud to be a part of”.
Susan is currently planning some practical business workshops to be launched very soon in celebration of her becoming a bestseller and as a further extension of her mission to knowledge share and inspire others to follow their dreams.
Female Success Co-Founder Sarah Stone said: “Female Success Network attracts women from all walks of life who have dreams and aspirations but need the clarity, strategy and clear goals to make their vision take shape, un-ashamedly pursuing their version of success. When we launched a year ago we had no idea who we would be supporting but the women we have worked the most closely with, those in our Mastermind group -(a small group that taps into our weekly training, monthly strategy calls and day to day support through our private Facebook group) have inspired us just as much as we have them. This book is a thank you to them for having faith in us, for putting our teachings into practice and for celebrating the huge wins they have all achieved over the last 12 months as they have taken control of their lives and futures”.
Abigail Horne, book coach at Authors & Co said: “Documenting your story can be one of the most powerful things you can do, to leave your legacy and to help have an impact on others. Susan’s story is sure to strike a chord with many other women worldwide, and I’m excited to have been able to help her share it, and achieve best-selling author status at the same time!”.
