Mount Cook Adventure Centre, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing access to outdoor activities for all, has announced the grand opening of their Rooftop Rider Zip Wire.
The first of its kind in Derbyshire, the 108-metre-long Zip Wire will start 15 metres off the ground on the Centre’s roof and finish in Steeplehouse Quarry. Guests can expect to reach speeds of up to 40 mph!
The purpose-built Centre, which was completed in July 2016, offers groups of children, young people and adults the opportunity to experience exciting outdoor activities, set against the backdrop of the Peak District. The eco building provides accommodation for 140 guests in modern en-suite bedrooms and a further 40 guests in the brand new wooden glamping pods. Full catering and a licensed bar is available in the large glass-fronted Dining Hall.
The Rooftop Rider Zip Wire is a valuable addition to the wealth of outdoor activities available at Mount Cook Adventure Centre, which currently includes a 10-metre-tall High Ropes course, an Indoor Climbing Wall, Archery Tag, Bush Craft and Survival Skills, and Orienteering. All activities are designed to develop key skills from team work, to communication.
Mount Cook will be celebrating the grand opening of the Rooftop Rider Zip Wire with a free Open Day on Monday 7th May 2018. The community event will offer a limited number of guests the opportunity to have a go on the Rooftop Rider, plus drop-in Bush Craft sessions, live music, face painting, food and refreshments. The Zip Wire sessions will cost £15 per adult and £10 per under 16, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Mount Cook charity of the year: Cancer Research UK. Zip Wire sessions will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis at the Open Day event.
Co-founder and Director, Colin Adams, said: “We think the Rooftop Rider Zip Wire will encourage tourists to the local area, helping to boost the local economy and create more jobs for local people. It’s a brilliant challenge for anyone looking to pioneer beyond their personal boundaries, and experience something different. Guests can also enjoy stunning 360 views of the surrounding Derbyshire countryside from the rooftop!”
The Rooftop Rider Zip Wire has been part funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development: Europe investing in rural areas.
