The internationally acclaimed stage sensation, Jersey Boys has arrived at The Regent Theatre and its got us so excited. A musical with enough pizzazz to get you singing, dancing and jiving to some of the best known songs of the 60s – even if you didn’t experience them first time round – it’s a thrilling musical journey from start to finish.
This smash hit musical has won 57 major awards and its winning the heart of the public once again as it embarks on its second UK tour, stopping at The Regent until Saturday 17th February.
Jersey Boys tells the remarkable true life story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. Following the struggles that four New Jersey boys from ‘the wrong side of the tracks’ had and the unparalleled success they achieved in such a short space of time, writing all their own songs and inventing their own unique sound and selling 100 million records worldwide – all before they turned 30.
And you’ll be pleased to know that the show is packed with all the hits you’d expect, including: Beggin’, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, December 1963 (Oh What A Night), Walk Like A Man, Bye Bye Baby (Baby Goodbye), Sherry and Big Girls Don’t Cry, and many more!
The stand out performance of the night has to go to Michael Watson, an incredible talent with a sensational voice and real star quality, utterly convincing as the musical icon, Frankie Valli. Simon Bailey also shone throughout the show – a brilliant take on the likeable rogue character of Tommy DeVito. Both Declan Egan (Bob Gaudio) and Lewis Griffiths (Nick Massi) also do a good job to make up the founding foursome.
But the music and acting was fabulous across the board and Director, Des Mcanuff’s show is lively, enthusiastic and thoroughly entertaining throughout. You fall in love with the characters instantly and feel every blow and success along their turbulent journey to super-stardom.
The Regent was packed to the rafters and the atmosphere was buzzing, and this isn’t just a show for glamorous grannies to reminisce either, this show is for all ages, even teenagers.
So, if you have a night free over the next nine days, I’m Beggin’ you to go see it…
