Dining alfresco is a rarity in British culture, but once those summer months come around we take every opportunity to dine outside. To make the most out of the illusive British sunshine you’ll need a relaxing garden space where you can indulge in good food with great company. Our friends at White Stores have provided six top tips for creating an enviable outdoor dining room:
Your furniture needs to be weatherproof and rust resistant in order to be left outside all year round without fear of weather damage. Constantly having to find places to store your garden furniture in the winter months is not ideal. Rattan furniture using strong PE or PU rattan wrapped around powder-coated aluminium frames is specially designed to be weather and rust resistant, ensuring your furniture will look stunning all year round, even when not in use.
Make the most of your space
If you’re entertaining then you want to make the most of your garden space and not feel cramped. It is important to pick a dining set that meets your needs. For larger gardens, sprawling sofa dining sets can fit a number of people and are great for relaxing after dinner. For smaller gardens we recommend sets which offer hidden extras such as this Cube Set – the footstools can be used as extra seats but can also tuck under the chairs when not in use, additionally the chairs fold down and tuck under the table, giving you back your garden space when you’re not alfresco dining.
Dining outside can be extremely messy, if the barbecue isn’t splashing grease everywhere, the kids are dropping their ice cream or birds are doing their business right where you’re eating. So, you need a dining table that is easy to clean and use again and again, which is why we recommend glass-topped tables which require a quick wipe down to be as good as new.
Add a parasol
As much as us Brits moan about rubbish weather we also moan when it’s too hot or the sun is in our eyes…to combat this, we recommend adding a parasol. Many garden furniture sets come fully equipped to hold a parasol in the middle of the table. Cantilever parasol’s can be adjusted on their axis and tilt, meaning you can protect yourself and your guests at every angle.
Keep your guests warm
As the sun sets you may not want your outdoor dining experience to come to an end just yet, so keep your guests warm with a fun fire pit. Most fire pits also double up as barbecues as well as providing some much-needed warmth on a chilly evening.
Keep your drinks cool
Whilst you’re warming your guests up you will still want to keep your drinks cool. Outdoor drinks coolers are practical, but the range of quirky designs available can also make an unusual garden feature.
Once you have your comfy, weather proof, easy to clean, sun protected garden furniture you will be the proud owner of a stylish and practical outside dining room fit for any alfresco event.
