NICOLE’S BEAUTY SECRETS

As the face of the new Broadway imPRESS nails Nicole Sherzinger is setting the trends for our 2012 manicures. Staffordshire Living has been able to talk exclusively to Nicole as she shares her beauty secrets and introduces us to the new craze of press on nails…

SL: So how are you finding the imPRESS nails?

NS: I love that they are incredibly easy to use, there’s no glue you just press on and peel them off.   My schedule is so hectic it’s nice I can take them with me on the road and have a beautiful salon perfect manicure in minutes with no drying time or mess!  They stay looking perfect for a week without chipping like nail polish.  Plus they are super shiny, just like a UV gel manicure – a look I love!

SL: What was it about that brand that made you want to be ambassador?

NS: I’m such a big ‘nail’ fan- since the nail art craze has taken off in the past few years, I’ve been in my element! So when Broadway approached me with this innovate new beauty concept, I jumped at the chance to be part of it!

SL: Which colours/ patterns from the range are your favourites to wear?

NS: I enjoy taking risks so the bolder the better!

SL: How important is it to have a product which is so easily applied in a short period of time?

NS: Sooo important! When I’m on the road I really don’t have time for manicures believe it or not! ImPRESS are my beauty saviour as they take matter of minutes to apply and they’re so long lasting.

SL: Which nail colours / patterns from the range represent your personality the most?

NS: When it comes to my style I am definitely a person that likes to mix things up and take risks.  I love pairing bright red or pink with a leopard or crackle print.  The beauty of it is you really can’t go wrong and more than anything its fun to experiment with the range of colours and patterns that imPRESS offers.

SL: Do you ever leave the house without your nails manicured?

NS: Rarely. A woman’s nails are a great way to express her individuality and unique style.  I have people asking all of the time where I get my manicures and now the secrets out…Broadway Nails imPRESS!

SL: Do you often match your nails to your outfits?

NS: Occasionally, it depends what look I’m going for. You can never go wrong with a French manicure and imPRESS do a great one called Rock It. If I’m going for a sleek look I might wear the black Text Appeal and for red carpet glamour you can beat Call My Agent.

SL: Which beauty trends are you going to be following this summer?

NS:I keep my beauty routine simple day to day but I think a bold lip in a really punchy shade such as coral or red looks great when the sun is out, and for the evening, you can never beat a smokey eye.

SL: With you leading such a busy lifestyle do you have any tips to keep your makeup looking fresh throughout the day?

NS: A good primmer will keep your make up in place. Murad Day Cream is a ‘one size fits all’ moisturiser and I love Make Up Forever’s waterproof lip liners which just don’t budge.

SL: What three items would you not be able to live without in your make-up bag?

NS: I was always carrying two spare packs of imPRESS- a plain shade and a pattern- should I want to switch my nails up. Chanel lipsticks are key to making you feel so sophisticated and I love Murad Day Cream with SPF 30.

SL: Are there any other beauty brands which you swear by?

NS: MAC are great for lip glosses, they’re not gloopy and are long lasting which is great. I also love Dior ‘show mascara’ and YSL’s waterproof lip liners.

SL: Do you have any beauty secrets to stop breakouts and to keep your skin glowing?

NS: When I’m performing or doing a lot of TV shows, the mixture of makeup and hot lights can leave my skin a little worse for wear, so I always make sure I remove my make up thoroughly at the end of the day. You need to keep hydrated from the inside so I drink plenty of water and try and cut down on sugary drinks which can lead to blemishes.

SL: What is your usual everyday makeup style?

NS: It depends; if I’m in the studio or working out then it’s all about tinted moisturiser, a little blush and some lip gloss, but if I’ve got TV appearances and interviews I’m usually wearing a great base foundation with a smokey eye or bold lip- never both at the same time though!

SL: Do you prefer the ‘glitz and glamour’ look we often see at your shows or the ‘oh so natural’?

NS: Again it depends what mood I’m in. I think every girl likes to switch things up a bit- it’s fun to alternate between a pretty girl look and something a little more vampish!

SL: If we were to re-create your look what would be the key areas to focus on?

NS: My hair is long so I love the way it looks when I’ve had a professional blow dry. I think the way your skin looks is really important so invest in a good exfoliator so it’s smooth and refreshed. And don’t forget this year is all about the imPRESS nails! I’ve been wearing plain shades on all fingers accept my ring fingers where I’ll add a crackle effects or leopard print design for a funky twist.

SL: Do you have a beauty routine in which you follow daily?

NS: Sometimes my days can last a little longer than 24 hours so it’s not as simple as ‘wake up, cleanse, moisturise’ etc , but I do try without fail to remove every scrap of make up before I got to sleep as that’s when your skin renews itself and when you need a good night cream!

SL: Have you ever had any bad beauty moments where you have thought ‘what was I thinking?’

NS: I don’t really believe in ‘beauty or fashion mistakes’ because I think everything is a learning curve and even if it isn’t particularly en vogue now, it was back in the day! I do think that wearing too much make up and the wrong foundation for your skin tone will always be a no-no!

SL: Do you have any tips to reduce the signs of ageing, as far as we can see you seem to be battling the wrinkles pretty well?!

NS: (Laughs) thank you! Luckily I have good genes so I’ve got my mum to thank for those! Ageing is a funny thing because it’s something that everyone tries to run away from but it’s an inevitable part of life. Spending a lot of time in LA you see these women who have clearly had loads of surgery in the effort to look young, when really they look 10 times worse than they would have done had they steered clear of the surgeon’s knife! I wouldn’t rule out plastic surgery in the future but I’m definitely too squeamish to try anything now!

SL: What’s the essential beauty item you will be taking to the beach this year on your summer vacation?

NS: I’ll be packing a good sun cream, a lipgloss with a high SPF and most of all my imPRESS nails. They last up to 7 days so if you’re looking for a versatile look then pick a plain shade to match your wardrobe- or if you’re a bit more chaotic and indecisive like me, take a few bottles and mix them up every few days. Trust me, if you take imPRESS away with you on a girl’s holiday, you’ll need a few pairs as everyone who sees them loves them!

SL: What projects are you working on in 2012 where we are likely to spot you wearing the imPRESS manicures?

NS: I’ve got my European tour which I am SO excited about, especially my UK dates. When you’re an American performer you expect the British crowd to be quite reserved- then you come over here and you guys are crazy! Definitely the most energetic crowd I’ve seen! I’ve also got my first big screen venture this summer in Men In Black 3 which I’m super excited about- you’ll spot me wearing imPRESS on the red carpet!
